NKENGE 1x KAMAU

OWNER of Everything 1x

Based out of Los Angeles, Nkenge 1x is a 2x BMI Film/TV Award winning multi-talented artist, writer & producer. A classically trained musician, he grew up in the DMV (Washington DC, Maryland, Virginia) playing the piano and drums from the age of 6. His style of music was developed through study of all genres - particularly, R&B, Hip-Hop, Rap, and Classical. His ability to cycle through the roles of artist, composer and lyricist was inspired by study of similarly multifaceted creatives like Stevie Wonder, Nina Simone, Prince, and Kanye West.

From his matriculation through the North Carolina School of Science & Math’s music program, and Florida A&M University's music & computer engineering programs, Nkenge developed strengths as recording and mix engineer in addition to building a library of collaborations with local underground artists that he produced & performed with live.

In 2013 Nkenge was recruited by Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music to write and produce for their breaking artists in Los Angeles. That opportunity led to collaborations with artists signed to other esteemed labels such as Sony, Warner Music Group, TIG Records, and KidinaKorner.

In 2016, Nkenge was introduced to Kurt Farquhar and the True Music Library through Peyton Alex Smith - an actor who was formerly Nkenge’s hall-mate at Florida A&M University. Under the mentorship of Kurt, Nkenge was introduced to the intricacies of Music Supervision, Synchronization in Film & TV, Music Composition for Film & TV, and Music Library development. In partnership with Kurt and True Music, Nkenge has placed original music and performances on major platforms such as TNT, BET, ABC, Lifetime, feature films, performed & co-wrote “The Neighborhood” theme song on CBS, and arranged “The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder” theme song on Disney +.

Since 2019, Nkenge has been developing a music library through his production company, Everything 1x. In 2023 he partnered with Grammy award winning songwriter & record label owner Harold Lilly Jr to develop talent and projects - expanding the volume of material in the music library.
Outside of the studio, Nkenge 1x dedicates his time to social justice, community outreach, and diversity and inclusion efforts. From 2020-2023, he led the Diversity and Inclusion Council for TAIT’s Thinkwell Group - one of the entertainment industry’s premiere experience designers. Many of his volunteer hours are spent in Los Angeles inner cities through organizations like the Los Angeles Peace Rides, the New World Academy Foundation, The Helper Foundation, mosques, and churches - organizing and executing food giveaways, free community concerts, back to school giveaways, panel discussions for issues relevant to the core of the community, financial literacy programs, and creative development opportunities for youth.
